Finale of the Shadow Boxer trilogy:
       Ordinary World

Duo saw Relena standing outside of the
cemetary. He parked his car and ran to her. Silently, they embraced.
"I can't believe he's actually gone, Duo. Just like
that. After all he lived through, just to be beaten by a disease! God damn! WHat will
happen to Ryanne?"
"Hilde and I have been considering taking her
in, unless you would like to keep her. Think about it, and let me know soon."
       "I will"
come in from a rainy thursday on the avenue,
thought I heard you talking softly I turned on the lights, the tv and the radio,
still I can't escape the ghost of you.
That night Relena lay in her bed alone for the
first time in months. She still couldn't believe that Heero was actually dead. As hard as she
tried not to, her mind took her back to the day they had found out that Heero had
terminal cancer.
       [flashback]
By the time the ambulance arrived,
Heero had gotten Ryanne to breathe again. It turned out that she had asthema, and
was quickly prescribed medication. However, the doctors made her stay overnight, just
to make sure everything was ok, and Heero stayed with her. On his way back from the
cafeteria, he blacked out. Relena screamed as she tried to catch him, getting burned
with the hot coffee. Nurses rushed to help them and Heero was taken away.
What is happening to it all? Crazy some
say. Where is the life that I recognize? Gone away...
Relena had taken Heero's place by
Ryanne's bed, watching the tiny girl sleep. Finally, a doctor approached her.
"Mrs. Yuy?" he asked. Relena didn't bother to
correct him.
"Yes? Did you find out what's wrong with
Heero?" she asked.
"We did, he has a brain tumor, Mrs. Yuy.
Level four."
Relena felt the entire universe come crashing down on her head. She had to grasp the
chair to keep from falling over.
"What does this mean?" she asked.
"He has only six months to live, Mrs.
Yuy.The tumor is inoperable, and the treatment we have to offer can't help him. I'm
sorry."
But I won't cry for yesterday, there's an
ordinary world somehow I have to find. And as I try to make my way, to the ordinary
world, I will learn to survive.
       [End flashback]
Relena sat up in bed. She knew what she had to
do. She wasn't sure if she was ready to raise a child, but Ryanne was all that she had left of
Heero now. And besides, Ryanne now thought of Relena as her mother, because Heero
and Relena had remarried soon after his diagnosis. In the morning Relena would go see
Duo right after her doctor's appoitment. She was late this month, but she thought it was
because of the stress from Heero's final weeks of life.
Passion or coincidence once prompted you
to say, Pride will tear us both apart. Well now pride's gone out the window, cross the
rooftops, ran away. Left me in the vaccuum of my heart.
The next morning, Relena stopped by Heero's
apartment on her way to the doctors. She let herself in and collected some of Ryanne's
belongings, including a picture of Heero and Ryanne's mother, Jade Maxwell. She went
into Heero's bedroom, which was excatly the same as when Heero died. On the dresser
was a small oak box. Relena raised the lid and inside was a sapphire necklace, with
matching earrings, both set in exquisite platinum. On top of the jewels was an envelope
with Relena's name written in Heero's perfect script. She took the letter to the bed, and
opened it carefully, being cautious not to tear the envelope.
       Dearest Relena,
now that I am gone., I want you to know
how much I loved you. Whenever you wear the jewels, think of me and the
wonderful times we had togther. PLease, find someone else to love, I don't want you
to stay alone. And take care of Ryanne for me. Life has cheated her out of two
parents already. She needs someone and I know I can trust you to raise her. Tell her
I love her and give her a kiss for me.

I love you forever and I am always with
you.

       Heero.
With tears streaming down her cheeks, Relena
put the letter back in the box, suddenly noting the date in the corner. Heero had written
this only three days ago, a day before he died. She left the cold apartment and drove to the
doctors.
Papers in the roadside tell of suffering and
greed, feared today, forgot tomorrow. Here beside the news of Holy War and holy need,
ours is just a little sorrowed talk, just blown away.
Relena sat on the hard examination table,
anxiously awaiting the doctor's return. He came in wearing a silly little grin on his face and
sat on the stool before her.
"Did you find out what's wrong with me?" she
asked.
"Nothing at all! You're pregnant!" he
proclaimed.
And I don't cry for yesterday, there's an
ordinary world, somehow I have to find. and as I try to make my way to the ordinary
world, I will learn to survive.
       nine months later......
Leaning heavily against Hilde and Duo, Relena
climbed out of the car and they walked up the steps to their house. Hilde and Duo had
come to stay with Relena in her mansion, because she felt it was too big and lonley. And
Hilde thought that Relena may need some help, because this pregnancy had been so
difficult.
Relena pushed open the door and called out
"We're home!". There was a shout from upstairs and little footsteps pounded down the
stairwell. Ryanne burst into the hall, followed closely by Duo and Hilde's daughter, Adele.
Relena slowly moved to her knees in front of Ryanne, holding a tiny bundle wrapped in a
blue fleece blanket.
"Ryanne, I want you to say hello you your
brother, Heero."
